Hosts “Daves Blues Mix”, Sundays, 4-9pm.
Was born in the UK in 1942 and migrated to Australia in 1981.
His first introduction to the “Blues” genre was in the mid 60’s. Learning a Chromatic Hohner Harmonica and played in pubs with another harmonica player and guitarist mainly in the style of Sonny Terry and Brownie McGhee. This hobby was not pursued.
In the early 70’s he put together a portable disco console and played at various gigs and private functions – mostly Motown Music, popular in discos at the time.
After a really long gap (raising a family, working and generally enjoying this continent of ours) his next musical break came when he joined STAR FM radio as an announcer, turning to his first love – “The Blues”, where he now hosts a show on Sunday arvo’s “Daves Blues Mix”, 4-9pm. he also co-hosts a morning show on Wednesdays, 8 to noon with the Trace Element.
He was appointed Head Announcer at STAR FM in 2005 and his role involves, among other things, providing ongoing training to new announcers.
He says “I’m not actually a musician in the real meaning of the word -I am a promoter of Blues music as I present a five hour Blues show on Sunday evenings from 4 pm (AEST). This show has been running now for over 6 years and my (text) play lists are posted all over the world. After my own show, there is a further 3 hours of Blues broadcast – so that’s 8 hours of Blues on Star FM!! I love presenting the different styles of Blues from the timeless songs of the past through to modern Contemporary Blues/rock of today and try to “feature” one new artist to each show. Occasionally I have live in-studio interviews to help promote local artists”.
